What makes a designer?

The tools to make pretty pictures is easy to get. $99 for a graphics program, pirate Photoshop, install one of the open source programs like GIMP. Just knowing some basic html allows the abiliy to use color and form creatively.

But ever since the first Mac gave home users the ability to use too many fonts in one document, people have been doing what they think of as "design" and what designers, in turn, think of as "Please shoot me now."
